CHARACTER
Name: Aziraphale
Journal: [personal profile] blessedarethebookmakers
Age: 6000 some odd but looks early to mid 50s
Canon: Good Omens
Canon point: end of series one

Abilities: Generally speaking Aziraphale can preform miracles. What these miracles do depends on what is being called for at the time.

He can summon light, he can change the course of run away prams, he can make vaguely threatening people trying to give him a hard time disappear, he can heal. He’s lately learned that he can also possess people so long as he’s not in in a physical body. His powers are basically limited by his own imagination, which is rather limited and he also prefers to interfere as little as possible with the course of humanity for good or ill.

His abilities also have an ambient effect that are unconscious on his part. For example if he’s feeling particularly whimsical on Christmas, it might begin to snow, even in a place where it never does.

Personality:
Strength: Aziraphale has strength of character, an innate love of humanity and an unshakeable faith in the Almighty—with an only moderately shaken faith in everyone else according to their personality. He believes in the greater good and that the Almighty comes to serve the greater good. Aside from his moral character he is good with money, both an excellent book -keeper and understanding the value of things. He also have a lot of life experience (having had a lot one) and knows how to fight should the need arise and he was absolutely pressed.

Weakness: Aziraphale is a bit of a hedonist. In other words he lets people get on with being themselves and slacks just a bit in guiding them toward good while he samples all the goods the world has to offer. He likes fine wines, fine foods, fine clothes (if a couple of decades out of date) and generally being very comfortable. This can lead him to be easily convinced to perhaps not perform as dutifully as he ought. He can also be a bit naïve when it comes to his coworkers (fellow angels) and their trustworthiness, but that is slowly changing. He himself is slow to change and can be a bit like a dragon on a hoarde when it comes to things he likes.

Motivations: Aziraphale is genuinely motivated to be good and to push others to good. He believes in the inherent goodness of humanity and wants to try to help others make the world a better place. He also firmly believes that humans are the ones that make their own paradise or hell and so, while he does miracles here and there for little things, he leaves the big things well enough alone.

Alternate memories:

Sebastian Raoul “Fell” St. Michaels

b. 1879

Early Life:
Fell was born to an eccentric, yet still wealthy branch of the St. Michaels of Mary Mead located in Havenshire England. His parents traveled around the world, adding to the family fortune but when he was very young they were taken ill of some sort of blood fever somewhere in Bangladesh. Because they had traveled off the beaten path he stayed for months in the administrator’s villa, relatively alone save for the servants who couldn’t speak his language but looked after him. He soon learned theirs however and by the time he was collected by his grandmother, the family matriarch, Bengali was all he knew.
His earliest memories of that time come with the heat and the humidity and the blue sea and his grandmother (Godith Elizabeth St. Michaels) coming to fetch him, backlit by the noon sun and shining like a star. On the return voyage which lasted a couple of months, they bonded and he relearned English as well as French, Latin, and Hindi.

The family estate was a cold place and the family had not liked his parents nor the fact that there was another heir vying for the title and lands thereof. He was raised by his aunt and uncle who did not look kindly on him but weren’t cruel to him because of the will of his grandmother.
One day when he was about seven, right after the Christmas service, his grandmother let him hold one of the family’s greatest heirlooms, given to their family by Henry VI (a broach of fire topazes shaped like a sword) which he subsequently gave away to a ragged couple who were likely beggars who ran off with it. His aunt and uncle were furious and wanted him punished and when they asked why he said because it was cold and there were wild animals and shouldn’t they give to the poor. This endeared him to his grandmother while everyone else grew to dislike him more.

When entering his early adolescence he was sent to a boarding school in France to study as was traditional among his family and when he returned one summer found that his grandmother had since become a recluse but no one could tell him why—except for some dark rumor that something evil was afflicting her.

Young Adulthood
As a young man, Fell traveled extensively through Europe and Asia and spent considerable time in India, mostly because he could not stand to be at home. Part of the time he was collecting avidly, treasures and trinkets (to please his grandmother) books and oddities (to please himself). Partly this was due to his restless nature, but it was also in part due to the fact that the passive aggressive tensions of his family were unbearable. They kept wanting to marry him off but he preferred to be a bachelor and he felt for all the candidates thrown his way. Escape seemed best.

He was also looking for something that could lift his grandmother’s spirits and went about searching for an evil that could be afflicting her, talking to cults and sects and shamans and temples and got caught naked in a Bacchanal once which he hadn’t regretted, but found no answers.

WWI:
This war struck when he was thirty-five years old. While Fell initially wanted to avoid it, when he realized how many were dying, he joined it instead. Due to his wealth and title, he was granted a leadership role that he couldn’t refuse and ended up in the trenches more often than not because he refused to stay behind.

One day in the last years of the war, a shell landed in their trench and exploded. Fell’s left side was badly wounded. He nearly lost a leg and has a scar from his calf all the way up to his ribs and he lost hearing in his left ear. He also had a vision, a vision of a demon that he believes protected them for a price.

Everyone in his unit was horribly wounded, but none fatally and many were sent home permanently so Fell viewed it as a blessing in disguise. This shock however sent him around the bend a bit and he would go on increasingly suicidal charges into enemy territory to drag people from no man’s land, no matter whose side they were on which caused quite a bit of controversy.

Before the war was ended he was taken out by his family and put in Lilith’s Bower, a lodge near the moors that the St. Michaels put their embarrassing relatives. There he was monitored by doctors and the like but he often broke out to scream poetry into the moors before suffering a complete mental break down and going silent for almost a decade.

His grandmother sent him a missive to come back to the world and see what good was still in it and to remake himself because the world missed him and needed him. She also gave him the key to the family vault for reasons unknown.

Columbia City
And so Fell found himself wanting a change and so in 1927 he changed his name, going only by Fell, considering himself a bit of a fallen angel, and moved to the states where he took up residence in Columbia City because it’s where his finger landed on the map. He procured a charming little townhouse, a maid of all work, a valet and a driver set about trying to figure out who he wanted to be. He participates in charities and fund raisers and rubs elbows with his peers to keep up the family name while at the same time rejuvenating his collection by finding and importing cursed objects, objects d’art and books. Lots of books. In his spare time he likes to study necromancy and demonology in hopes that he can summon the demon that both saved and cursed him.
